Straighten Your Teeth Without Embarrassment

Would you love to have straight teeth but hate the thought of wearing metal brackets and wires for two years or even longer? You should consider Invisalign® clear dental aligners from Dr. Gary Bram at Dental Expressions in Bayside, NY. Invisalign has revolutionized the process of moving teeth for adults and teenagers comfortably and without embarrassment.

Those Traditional Braces

Metal braces are a proven method of moving teeth into their proper alignment. For severe orthodontic needs, metal braces may be the preferred option. While there’s no doubt that braces do an excellent job, they come with a lot of downsides.

The “mouthful of metal” is a well-known disadvantage. Depending on your age, you might have heard the “brace face” or “metal mouth” comments thrown around in high school. Some of today’s metal braces use tooth-colored brackets and wires. That reduces the negative impact when you smile, but the braces are still obvious.

Another issue is that all that metal in the mouth can irritate and even cut your tongue, gums, and the insides of your mouth. That’s definitely not fun.

Metal braces come with a number of food restrictions and care must be taken when eating some foods. Braces are also difficult to clean around thoroughly. In fact, one of the first things that braces-wearers do when the braces come off is to demand a toothbrush and toothpaste!

Orthodontic treatment with braces typically take two years or more. That’s long time to live with the disadvantages of metal braces.

Finally, traditional braces require fairly frequent dentist visits to tighten the wires that do the work of moving teeth. Tightening the wires may result in pain that lasts for several days.

How Invisalign® Is Different

Unlike metal braces, Invisalign clear aligners are made from a smooth plastic that won’t irritate or cut the insides of your mouth. The removable aligners fit snugly over your teeth. You can wear them with confidence knowing that they will not pop off unexpectedly and that the aligners are very hard to spot while they’re in place.

You remove the aligners to eat all the foods you love and to care for your teeth as you usually do. You can also remove them for special occasions if you wish. For best results, wear the aligners for about 22 hours each day. You can sleep confidently with the aligners in place. They’ll stay put.

About every two weeks, you’ll receive the next aligner in your completely customized series. Changing aligners results in, at most, a slight sense of pressure. Your new aligner continues the work of moving your teeth into the desired position comfortably and invisibly.

Invisalign treatment is generally complete within one year, which compares very favorably to the two years or longer that braces typically take to move teeth. You’ll have some appointments with Dr. Bram to check your progress during treatment.
